Screens and touch controls
- Use a clean, dry microfiber, or one lightly dampened with water. Never spray liquid onto the screen.
- Some EVs, including Teslas, have a screen-cleaning mode that pauses the touchscreen so you don't press buttons while wiping. Your owner's manual shows where it is.
- Skip paper towels and household glass cleaner on screens; they can scratch or streak anti-glare coatings.
Light seats and dye transfer
Many EVs come with white or light synthetic leather. New denim and dark fabrics can leave a blue tint on light seats, and it is easier to remove while it is fresh.
- Wipe light seats every week or two with a damp microfiber, then a dry one.
- For marks, use a gentle interior cleaner made for automotive leather or synthetic leather. Test on a hidden spot first, which is what we do too.
- Avoid melamine sponges and harsh solvents. They can dull or remove the seat's top coat.
- Perforated or ventilated seats: never soak them. Work with a barely damp cloth.
Glass roofs and glossy trim
- Use an ammonia-free glass cleaner, applied to the towel rather than sprayed toward the roof liner or screen.
- Gloss black ("piano black") trim scratches very easily. Use light pressure and a fresh, clean microfiber; even careful cleaning can leave light marks.
- Use a sunshade on hot days to keep heat off the dash and seats.
Front trunk, charge port and high voltage
- Clean the front trunk like the interior: vacuum crumbs and wipe spills from groceries before they set.
- Never spray water or cleaner into the charge port or around high-voltage parts, which are usually marked with orange cables.
- Unplug before a detail. We do not unplug a car that is charging.
- For automatic washes, many EVs have a car wash mode that locks the charge port and disables automatic wipers. Check your owner's manual.
How we detail EVs
Hand clean only. Charge ports and high-voltage areas are never sprayed, screens and glass roofs get screen-safe products, light seats are treated gently, and the front trunk is cleaned like the interior. On EVs, the engine bay part of the Complete Detail is a wipe-down of the front trunk and visible plastic covers. More on our EV and Tesla detailing page.
