Hand wash on campus

Mobile Car Wash in Stanford

A hand wash where your car is parked, if your building or lot allows it.

A mobile car wash in Stanford: check the rules first

A mobile car wash in Stanford starts with one question: is washing allowed where your car is parked? Campus housing and campus parking rules vary, and many residence lots do not allow washing. Please check your building or campus parking rules before you book. If washing is not allowed, an Interior Detail needs only an outlet and may be the better fit.

Where washing is allowed, such as some faculty and staff homes with their own driveways, our Exterior Detail is a careful hand wash, wheels and tires cleaned, tire dressing and outside glass.

Hand wash vs a tunnel down the road

A tunnel wash on El Camino Real is quick, but brushes and blowers miss the edges and lower panels. A hand wash takes the time to get the wheel faces, the door handles and the glass. It also saves you a trip in traffic.

Whatever the location, we need a standard outlet within reach. A tap is used only on some jobs, which we mention when we confirm. We make sure wash water does not reach storm drains. A garage spot means waterless or rinseless methods only.

Hand washing also lets us notice things a machine would not, like a fresh drip of sap or a leaf stuck in the wiper cowl, and deal with them while we are there.

What builds up on cars around campus

Cars parked along Junipero Serra Boulevard or under the big trees near faculty homes collect leaves, sap and bird droppings. Fresh droppings and sap usually come off. Baked on by the sun, they can leave etch marks that may not fully come out.

Summer brings dry dust from the foothills, and the first winter rains turn it into a gritty film.

Questions

Can you wash my car in a residence lot?
Only if washing is allowed there. Please check your building or campus parking rules first. If it is not allowed, we can suggest an Interior Detail instead.
Can you wash the car inside a garage?
In a garage we use waterless or rinseless methods only. Check that your building allows detailing first.
Do you need to use my water?
Only for some jobs. We always need an outlet near the car, and we tell you when we confirm if a tap is needed.
Can you remove bird droppings that have been there for weeks?
We can usually remove the droppings. Any etching left behind may not fully come out, and we tell you what we see before we start.
Do you wax the car?
No. Wax, sealants and ceramic coatings are outside what we do.
