How to clean crumbs around car seats

Where crumbs around car seats hide
Crumbs around car seats fall into the gap between the seat and the console, slide down seat rails and collect under child seat bases. Seams and stitching trap the finest bits.
Families shuttling between school, sports fields and weekend errands often find the back row takes the worst of it. Over time crumbs grind into carpet and attract ants on warm days.
Crumbs also slip into seat pockets and the folds of fabric where seatbacks meet cushions, and they break down into fine powder that a quick vacuum misses.
A quick cleanup you can do
Work top to bottom so crumbs fall to the floor and get vacuumed last.
A soft detailing brush, like a clean paintbrush, pulls crumbs out of stitching and buttons much better than a vacuum alone.
- Remove child seats only if you are comfortable reinstalling them correctly.
- Slide each front seat fully forward, then back, to expose the rails.
- Use a crevice tool along seams and between cushions.
- Brush fabric lightly to loosen stuck bits before vacuuming.
- Shake out and vacuum floor mats separately.
Things that make the mess worse
Wiping sticky crumbs with a wet cloth can smear sugar into fabric. Pressing crumbs into leather seams with a damp towel spreads them.
Avoid scented sprays to cover up a crumb smell. They mask the problem and can leave residue.
Leaving crumbs for months lets oils from food soak into fabric and leave faint greasy spots, so a light cleanup every week or two goes a long way.
